Things You Can Do at Home in Case of an Emergency:
Did your tooth fall out?
- Pick up the tooth by the top (crown) and NOT by the root. It is very important not to touch the root.
- Rinse the tooth with water but do not scrub.
- If you can, gently place the tooth back into the socket, hold it in place while you gently bite down.
- If you can’t place the tooth back into the socket, place tooth in a container with milk. If you do not have milk, you can place the tooth under your tongue until you can get milk.
- Contact a dentist ASAP! This is a time-sensitive emergency, and the quicker you act, the higher the chances you have to save the tooth.
Is your tooth loose but still attached?
- You can gently try to place the tooth back to its original position, but do not force it.
- Contact us immediately so you can be seen, and we can stabilize your tooth.
Is your tooth cracked?
- A cracked tooth is normally uncomfortable and signifies that something is wrong with the inside of the tooth.
- If your gums are injured:
- Do warm salt water rinses
- Take Tylenol to manage pain
- Avoid placing any OTC ointments on your gums as that can cause more damage.
- Contact us right away to get scheduled to be seen.
Is your tooth chipped?
- Normally, chipped teeth that aren’t painful can be smoothed or repaired with composite bonding.
- Chipped teeth can usually be repaired at a regular dental appointment.
- If you are unsure, please give us a call, and we will facilitate.
